Top-Load Filter Cage Installation

Estimated Reading Time: 2 min read

After successfully installing and verifying the filter bag, the next step is to carefully install the corresponding filter cage. The cage provides crucial support, preventing the filter bag from collapsing under the airflow and aiding in the cleaning process.

1. Inspect the Filter Cage

Before installation, perform a final, thorough inspection of the filter cage. Look for any bent wires, broken welds, sharp burrs, or signs of rust or corrosion. Any damage to the cage can lead to premature wear or tearing of the new filter bag. Discard any cages that are not in perfect condition.

2. Gently Guide the Cage into the Bag

Hold the cage vertically above the installed filter bag. Then gently and carefully guide the cage straight down into the bag. Do NOT simply drop the cage into the filter bag. The cage should slide smoothly into the bag. Ensure the cage is centered within the bag for even support.

3. Assemble Multi-Section Cages (if applicable)

  • Insert the bottom section of the cage into the bag first.
  • Use a tool like a wooden dowel or the handle of a hammer to support the first section by placing it horizontally through the cage wires, just below the connection point for the next section. This prevents the section from falling further into the bag.
  • Carefully align the locking fingers or connecting points of the next cage section with the top of the previously inserted section.
  • Push down firmly until the sections securely click, crimp, or lock into place. Repeat this process for any additional sections until the full cage length is assembled within the bag.

4. Ensure Full Seating

Once the cage is fully inserted (and assembled, if multi-section), ensure it is seated all the way to the bottom of the filter bag. The cage should provide complete internal support to the bag.

5. Install Venturis (if applicable)

If your baghouse design includes separate venturis, carefully place or secure them on top of the installed filter cages. Ensure they are properly seated and aligned with the cage top and the pulse-jet blowpipes.

6. Reinstall Blowpipes

If the pulse-jet blowpipes were removed for bag and cage installation, carefully reinstall and align them directly above the venturis or the top openings of the filter bags. Proper alignment is crucial for effective pulse-jet cleaning.
