Round Filter Cage Specifications

Estimated Reading Time: 8 min

By providing this complete set of information, Aokai Environtec can give customers a precise and accurate quote. In addition, we can then design and manufacture the correct round filter cages that integrate seamlessly with customers’ existing baghouses, ensuring efficient filtration and an extended lifespan.

Core Geometric Measurements (Critical for Fit & Support)

  • Cage Diameter (Outside Diameter – OD): This is the most vital measurement for round cages. It’s the outside diameter of the cage body, measured at the widest point between the vertical wires. This dimension dictates the fit inside the filter bag.
    • Important Note on Fit: The cage diameter is typically slightly smaller than the filter bag’s manufactured diameter (e.g., the cage might be 5.875″ for a 6″ diameter bag) to create a slight “pinch” that holds the bag securely and allows for proper dust cake release.
  • Overall Length (Full Length of the Cage): The total measurement from the very top to the very bottom of the cage. This should correspond to the active filter length of the bag.

Internal Structure & Support

  • Number of Vertical Wires (Longitudinal Wires / Stringers): This indicates how many wires run lengthwise along the cage, providing the primary structural support to the filter bag. Common counts are 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, or 24. (More wires are often used for specialty fabrics like fiberglass or those requiring maximum support).
  • Number of Horizontal Rings (Support Rings): The count of rings that run horizontally around the cage, providing stability and maintaining the cage’s round shape.
  • Horizontal Ring Spacing (Distance between Rings): The distance between each successive horizontal support ring. Standard spacing is often 6 inches (15.24 cm) or 8 inches (20.32 cm), but can vary. Note if the spacing differs at the top or bottom.
  • Wire Gauge (Wire Diameter): The thickness of the individual wires used to construct the cage. This is often given in American Wire Gauge (AWG) (e.g., 9 gauge, 10 gauge, 11 gauge) or in millimeters/inches (e.g., 3.0mm, 0.125 inches). Please note that the wire gauge for the vertical wires and horizontal rings might be different.

Top Construction (How the Cage Connects & Seals)

  • Top Construction Style: This is crucial as it dictates how the cage and bag are installed and sealed in the baghouse. Common styles include:
    • Rolled Flange (or Rolled Top / Turned Down Flange): A common style for “top-load” pulse-jet baghouses. The bag’s snap band typically seats against or inside this flange.
    • Split Collar (or Rolled Band / Split Ring): A common style for “bottom-load” pulse-jet baghouses or shaker-style baghouses, where the bag is loaded from the bottom and then secured at the top.
    • All Wire Top: The cage simply terminates in wires at the top, typically used with specific bag cuff designs.
    • T-Flange: A “T”-shaped flange at the top for specific mounting arrangements.
  • Venturi (if present): Many pulse-jet cages include a venturi, a cone-shaped attachment at the top that optimizes airflow and cleaning efficiency. If present, specify:
    • Venturi Length: The length of the venturi cone itself (e.g., 3 inches, 4 inches, 5 inches, 6 inches).
    • Venturi Diameter (Top/Bottom): The diameters of the venturi’s inlet and outlet.
    • Venturi Material: (e.g., aluminum, carbon steel, galvanized, stainless steel).

Bottom Construction (How the Cage Terminates at the Bottom)

Common options include:

  • Welded Pan Bottom: A solid metal plate welded to the bottom rings/wires of the cage, creating a sealed end. (Most common for pulse-jet).
  • Crimped Cup Bottom: A formed metal cup that is crimped onto the wires.
  • Wire Formed / Open Bottom: The wires simply terminate or are formed into a simple loop/hook, often used with certain bag designs or where the bag has its own self-supporting bottom.

Materials and Coatings (For Durability & Chemical Resistance)

  • Material: The base metal composition of the cage wires and any structural components (e.g., plain carbon steel/mild steel, galvanized steel, 304 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel, 316L stainless steel, Inconel).
  • Finish Treatment / Coating: Any applied coatings to protect against corrosion, abrasion, or for specific applications (e.g., pre-galvanized, post-galvanized, epoxy coating, powder coating, silicone coating, PVC vinyl coating, pickling & passivation for stainless steel).

Other Important Details (if applicable)

  • Multi-Piece Construction: If the cage is supplied in multiple sections due to plenum height restrictions or very long lengths (e.g., two-piece, three-piece), specify:
    • The length of each section.
    • The type of connection between sections (e.g., “twist-lock,” “fingers” style, slide lock, clamp, chuck, claw joint, guide plate, ring joints).
  • Associated Filter Bag Dimensions: While these are for the bag, they are inherently linked to the cage selection:
    • Bag Diameter: The manufactured diameter of the filter bag.
    • Bag Length: The overall length of the filter bag.
  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Information: If you know the make and model of the baghouse or the original cage manufacturer, this can provide valuable context for suppliers.
  • Application & Operating Conditions: Briefly describing the industry, type of dust, temperature, and any corrosive elements can help manufacturers recommend the best materials and coatings.
