Industry Overview

Non-ferrous metals are metals that do not contain iron or ferrous. Non-ferrous metals include aluminum, copper, zinc, lead, nickel, titanium, tin, and precious metals such as gold and silver. Non-ferrous metals offer some compelling characteristic properties:

Non-ferrous metal manufacturing process is energy intensive as it takes a great amount of fuels to smelt and refine metals. In addition, acids and alkalis and other chemical reagents are often used in the main process. As a result, a significant amount of particulate emissions occurs. Therefore, non-ferrous metal plants need efficient filtratioin solutions.

Dust Filtration Challenges

Fugitive dust emissions occur at multiple points through the manufacturing processes in non-ferror metal plants. Main sources of emission include raw material storage and handling, roasting, smelting, refining, melting and casting. Main air pollutants emitted include CO₂, CO, NO_x, PM10, sulfur oxides (SO_x), VOCs (volatile organic compounds), dioxins & furans, NH₃, hydrochloric acid (HCl), fluorine & inorganic compounds, chlorine & inorganic compounds, PAHs and PFCs. The dust ladden gas flow generated during the manufacturing processes has the following characteristics:

• High moisture level at high temperature
