Dust Filter Bag Selection Guide

Giriş

Dust filter bags are the heart of industrial dust collection systems. Industries such as cement, steel, power generation, waste incineration, and chemical processing rely on dust filter bags for safe and efficient dust management.

Choosing the right dust filter bag can effectively reduce maintenance costs, minimize downtime, and improve overall system performance.

Understanding Dust Filter Bags

A dust filter bag is the heart of an industrial dust collection system. When dust-laden gas passes through the filter bag, dust particles are trapped on the bag surface due to filtration, impact, diffusion, and electrostatic effects, forming a “dust cake,” while clean air passes through the fiber gaps.

A complete dust filter bag system consists of three core components: filter media, bag shape, ve support cage. These elements work together to ensure efficient filtration and system stability.

Common Cleaning Types

pulse jet baghouse
The most widely used high-efficiency cleaning method.

Pulse Jet Filtre Torbaları

Compressed air (0.2–0.7 MPa) is pulsed into the bag for ~0.1 s, causing the bag to rapidly expand and the dust cake to detach.

  • Temel Özellikler :
    • High Efficiency : Offers high cleaning energy, effectively removing even sticky dust.
    • Online Cleaning : Allows cleaning row-by-row without stopping the system’s draft fan, ensuring continuous system operation.
    • Compact Footprint : Operates at a higher filtration velocity (air-to-cloth ratio up to 1.0 – 1.8m/min), resulting in a smaller overall equipment footprint.
reverse air baghouse
A gentle and non-destructive cleaning method, exceptionally suited for high-temperature and fragile filter media

Ters Hava Filtresi Torbaları

Also utilizes an inside-out filtration design. During cleaning, the filtration valve is closed, and a reverse air fan or system draft is used to blow clean air in the opposite direction (outside-in). This reverse flow causes the cylindrical bags to collapse slightly inward and deform, cracking and shedding the dust cake formed on the inner walls. To prevent the bags from collapsing completely and binding, anti-collapse rings are sewn into the filter bag at regular intervals.

  • Temel Özellikler :
    • Gentle : Free from intense mechanical impact and vibration, resulting in an exceptionally long service life for the filter bags.
    • Suitable for Large Volumetric Flows Commonly deployed in large-scale industrial boilers and cement kiln-end baghouses utilizing large-area fiberglass filter bags.
    • Large Footprint : Requires a lower filtration velocity (typically under 0.5 – 8.8m/min), which makes the overall dust collector system quite massive.

Çalkalayıcı Filtre Torbaları

The filter bags are suspended from an upper shaker bar and secured to the tubesheet at the bottom. The dust-laden gas flows from the inside to the outside of the bag (inside-out filtration). During cleaning, a mechanical drive vibrates the shaker bar at high frequency (either horizontally or vertically), shaking off dust accumulated on the inner walls into the hopper.

  • Temel Özellikler:
    • Mandatory Offline Cleaning : The compartment must be isolated (airflow stopped) during shaking, as any upward draft would oppose the downward gravity settling of the dust.
    • Simple Construction : No complex compressed air systems are required.
    • Limitations : Places high demands on the tensile strength of the filter media; unsuitable for highly sticky or extremely fine dust; moving mechanical parts are subject to high wear and tear.

Key Material Options for Dust Filter Bags

Choosing the right material is one of the most important steps in dust filter bag selection. Different working temperatures, dust properties, gas conditions, and chemical environments require different filter media.

Temperature-Based Dust Filter Bag Selection

Polyester Filter Bag

Polyester Filtre Torbaları

Excellent mechanical strength and abrasion resistance; highly cost-effective. Ideal for dry, non-corrosive dust filter bag applications. (Continuous: 130°C , Surge: 150°C )

P84 filter bag

P84 (Poliimid) Filtre Torbası

P84 filter bags feature excellent high-temperature resistance and strong filtration performance. The unique fiber structure helps improve dust capture efficiency, especially for fine particles.(Continuous: 240°C, Surge: 260°C)

Cam Elyaf Filtre Torbası

Fiberglass filter bags are commonly used in high-temperature dust collection systems. They offer good dimensional stability and can be combined with PTFE membrane treatment to improve filtration efficiency and dust release.(Continuous: 240°C, Surge: 260°C)
Aramid Fiber Filter Bags

Nomex (Aramid) Filtre Torbaları

High mechanical strength and excellent abrasion resistance; however, it has poor hydrolysis resistance in high-moisture acid environments. (Continuous: 204°C, Surge: 240°C)

PTFE Filter Bag

PTFE Filtre Torbası

PPS dust filter bags are suitable for high-temperature and chemically challenging working conditions. They offer good resistance to acid gases and hydrolysis, making them commonly used in power plants, boilers, and waste incineration systems.(Continuous: 240°C, Surge: 260°C)
Polyphenylene sulfide PPS Filter Bags

PPS Filtre Torbası

Excellent acid/alkali resistance and outstanding hydrolysis resistance; sensitive to high oxygen levels (O2 > 8). (Continuous: $160°C, Surge: 190°C)

Dust Characteristics & Dust Filter Bag Surface Finishes

High Moisture & Oil Environments

Leads to heavy dust caking and premature dust filter bag blinding (condensation sticking).

Aokai Engineering Solution:

Water & Oil Repellent Treatment (Fluoro-resin coating) for the dust filter bag.

Static Charge Environments

Accumulation of static charges from combustible dusts (e.g., coal dust, flour, wood chips) may cause sparking and explosion of the dust filter bag.

Aokai Engineering Solution:

Anti-static Dust Filter Bag (Utilizing stainless steel conductive fiber blend or carbon scrim).

Fine & Sticky Dust

Unusually high operating pressure drop; standard dust filter bags fail to release fine particles during cleaning.

Aokai Engineering Solution:

PTFE Microporous Membrane Laminated Dust Filter Bag.

Troubleshooting & Common Filter Bag Issues

High Pressure Drop (Bag Blinding)

Dust is not releasing from the bags during the cleaning cycle, causing the differential pressure to stay constantly high.

Solutions:

  • Pre-heat the baghouse to prevent condensation and stay above the dew point.
  • Check cleaning system valves and ensure optimal compressed air pressure.
  • Fabric Upgrade: Switch to a PTFE Membrane or water/oil repellent finish for better dust cake release.

Premature Wear and Abrasion

Holes or thin spots appearing on the lower part of the bags or along the cage wires.

Solutions:

  • Install or repair baffle plates at the inlet to distribute airflow evenly.
  • Ensure a tight fit between the filter bag and the support cage.
  • Fabric Upgrade: Use heavier weight felts, reinforced bottoms, or fabrics specifically designed for high abrasion.

High Pressure Drop (Bag Blinding)

Visible dust coming from the exhaust stack or emissions monitors failing.

Solutions:

  • Perform a Fluorescent Dye Test (leak powder test) with a UV light to quickly pinpoint the exact location of the leaks.
  • Double-check the seating of the snap rings during installation.
  • Replace damaged bags immediately.

Chemical Attack (Hydrolysis & Oxidation)

The bag material becomes extremely brittle, loses tensile strength, and easily crumbles or tears like paper.

Solutions:

  • Analyze your gas stream composition (O2, SO2, Moisture, NOx).
  • Fabric Upgrade: If hydrolysis is an issue, avoid standard Polyester. Consider Akrilik, PPS, or PTFE. If oxidation is an issue, avoid PPS and consider P84® (Polyimide) or Fiberglas.
