Asphalt Plant Achieves 75% Dust Emissions Reduction

Summary

An asphalt mixing plant in Northern China had experienced emissions at 45mg/m³ and above, which was way above the maximum emission level required by the local regulations. After replacing all its 720 regular aramid filter bags with Aokai HPE245G Low Emission Aramid Blend Filter Bags, the asphalt mixing plant has maintained its emissions at below 10mg/m³ for 2 years.

Background

The local environment authority had released new emission regulations which were targetting at industrial furnances. Effective on Jan. 1, 2020, any manufacturing processes with industrial furnance had to control their dust emissions below 10mg/m³. The concerned organizations had to be vigilant with their current emission status, or they would run the risk of being ordered to shut down their manufacturing and industrial processes.

Challenges

As Jan. 1, 2020, the effective date of the new emission regulations, was approaching, the asphalt mixing plant had to find out:

  • What the current emission level was;
  • What a dust collection upgrade solution would be;
  • How to implement the upgrade.

Unfortunately, its existing baghouse and filter bag suppliers were not capable of  performing an on-site operating conditions and particle emission test & analysis. Time was running out.

Solution

The customer had heard of us on the market as Aokai had more than 35% of the market share in the asphalt mixing industry in China. Time was running out, and the customer contacted AoKai as a last resort effort. Failure was not an option.

After an initial consultation, a used filter bag was immediately sent to Aokai laboratory for testing & analysis. In addition, an AoKai service team was quickly dispatched to perform an on-site operating conditions & emission analysis. The on-site data revealed the following:

  • The dust emission was at an astonishing level of 45mg/m³
  • The maximum continuous operating temperature was at 150°C (302°F)
  • The flue gas contained bitumen smoke, oil, limestone, and basalt & other alkaline ash

Based on the findings, our customer took our advice and ordered a complete change-out using AoKai Low Emission Aramid Filter Bags, which were custom made of AoKai Aramid Blend filter media with an evenly distributed pore structure and finer pore size.

Result

A total of 720 Aokai Low Emission Aramid Blend Filter Bags were installed on-site within one month after the customer ordered the change-out. Dust emission levels of 8mg/m³, 6mg/m³, and 6mg/m³ were recorded 3 months, 8 months, and 12 months after the change-out respectively. Without any baghouse structural changes and additional hardware upgrades, the customer has maintained its emission level below 10mg/m³ for 2 years after the change-out.
